Booking and Dispatch
Every exhauster service in Nairobi begins with a structured booking. When a client contacts Cleaner-Kenya, our dispatch team records the site location, the type of waste to be removed — septic tank waste, pit latrine sludge, grease from restaurant traps, or blocked drain lines — and the urgency of the request. This information determines which exhauster truck is deployed. Smaller residential jobs are assigned to compact vacuum tankers that can navigate narrow estate roads, while commercial and industrial sites receive high-capacity units fitted with more powerful suction pumps. Dispatch is coordinated in real time, which allows us to serve homes, schools, hospitals, hotels, and apartment complexes across Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, and surrounding counties with minimal waiting time.
Site Assessment and Safety Set-Up
On arrival, the operator conducts a short site assessment before any hose is unrolled. The team identifies the septic tank or pit access points, checks for cracks or collapsed covers, and confirms that the area around the tank is stable enough to support the truck. Safety cones are placed around the working zone, and the crew wears protective gloves, boots, and overalls throughout the operation. This stage matters because an unstable tank or an unmarked manhole can turn a routine emptying exercise into a hazardous incident. Where a cover is stuck or buried, the crew excavates and opens it carefully without damaging the surrounding slab or plumbing.
Vacuum Extraction and Sludge Removal
With the site secured, the suction hose is connected and lowered into the tank. The vacuum pump then draws liquid waste, sludge, and scum directly into the sealed tanker. Our exhauster trucks are fitted with high-performance pumps that can empty a standard residential septic tank of up to 10,000 litres in a single visit, and larger tanks are cleared through consecutive loads. For pit latrines that have hardened or compacted waste, the crew uses jetting water to break down the solids before extraction, ensuring the pit is genuinely emptied rather than partially drained. The crew monitors the fill level of the tanker continuously to prevent overflow and spillage on the client's property.
Jetting, Flushing, and Pipe Descaling
Emptying the tank is only part of the job. Many drainage problems stem from blocked or greasy pipes rather than a full tank alone. After extraction, the team flushes the inlet and outlet lines with high-pressure water jetting, clearing accumulated fat, soap residue, and solid debris from the drain field and sewer connections. This step restores proper flow between the house and the tank, reduces the risk of backflow into the home, and extends the time before the next emptying is required. For grease traps in commercial kitchens, the baffles are scraped and flushed before the trap is refilled with clean water.
Waste Transportation and Disposal
Once the tanker is full, the waste is transported for disposal at designated NEMA-approved waste treatment and disposal sites. Cleaner-Kenya never discharges effluent into open grounds, rivers, or storm drains. Clients receive a disposal confirmation on request, which is especially valuable for businesses and institutions that must demonstrate compliance during health inspections or environmental audits.
Post-Service Inspection and Client Handover
Before the crew leaves, the tank cover is reinstated and sealed, the working area is cleaned, and the operation is reviewed with the client. The operator notes the current waste levels, advises on the ideal next emptying interval, and flags any early signs of tank damage, root intrusion, or drainage failure. Clients are encouraged to book periodic emptying — typically every one to three years for households and more frequently for commercial premises — because scheduled maintenance is always cheaper than emergency repairs caused by an overflowing system.
